Meeting with Duke Cosimo I de’Medici at the Palazzo Vecchio Museum in Florence.

Saturday 8 February at the Palazzo Vecchio Museum in Florence, MUS.E and the Civic Museums organize the event “Meeting with Duke Cosimo I de ‘Medici”. Inspired by the project “In Cosimo’s palace. The symbols of power” going on in Palazzo Vecchio until March 25th.

It will be a way to participate in a precious living history experience. During the themed tour inside Palazzo Vecchio it will be possible to admire the Scepter and the Grand Ducal Crown and the Collar of the Golden Fleece which are the splendid jewels that identify Cosimo’s power.

It will be discovered, through the legible original documents, how Cosimo I obtained the title of Grand Duke of Tuscany given to him by Pope Pius V. Then an encounter with the historical personage will be staged in the Audience hall; which will illustrate the secret motivations that the Medici had for the creation of the Grand Ducal Crown and for the solemn coronation.

In addition, it will be possible to visit some stages of “In Cosimo’s palace” which illustrate the roles and habits of life in the Medici Palace. Curated by Carlo Francini (UNESCO office manager of the Municipality of Florence) and Valentina Zucchi (MUS.E mediation manager), the route leads to discover the secrets of Palazzo Vecchio which in 1537 Cosimo I, appointed Duke of Florence, made his residence, to then transfer the whole court in 1540.

Then the visit culminates with the exposition of the three jewels: The Collar of the Golden Fleece, the Scepter and the Grand Ducal Crown. Three handmade creations made by Paolo Penko a master goldsmith; presented on hand-woven silk velvet cushions made by the Lisio Silk Art Foundation.

Participation must be booked, for reservations and more information: http://musefirenze.it/
